It's just amazing, isn't it! And DAX is getting a following, too. I just... love that. XD He's mentioned in one line in the game. (Actually... "he"... we don't even know that much! That could be a girl's name! Who knows, really. Blaise Zabini all over again!)
...Oh! Harry Potter character! Right, right.
Yeah, he’s quickly become a beloved SC2 OC over there. Crazy! But he’s one of zarla
’s OCs, and she always makes great characters.
A lot of people are starting to ship ZEX/DAX too. XD And ZEX/Captain/DAX, which is awesome
I love threesomes so freakin’ much
. I think it would take a while for DAX to warm up to the Captain and stop thinking of him as “That human bastard that ruined ZEX and took him away from me”, though. It is! :D I mean, I have pretty much resigned myself to being happy with it if the girl isn't crying, so this is nice.
*nods* Yeah, or if she isn’t bleeding or being torn apart.
ARGHARGHBLKSDHFDJISFHUID;DSAJKL that brought up some horrible mental images that I thought I’d managed to forget about. D: Damn you, Japan. *shakes fist*...And, a friend and I were talking about how neat it would be if there were a game based off of this. See, the basic plot would be that you're a researcher, and you have to get data on the various species of tentacle monsters... the main parts of the game would be going into the forest and, ah, gathering data. :3
THAT WOULD BE AMAZINGLY AWESOME. :O
Hmm... Just some more thought on what the background/plot could be: Humanity has found a valuable resource-heavy planet that they want to colonize and/or want to set up resource collection facilities on. They eventually manage to get a few small colonies or whatever set up, but they can’t expand because they find that the planet contains hostile alien wildlife; tentacled plant and animal life that attack people in a rather...er...intimate
manner. Humanity really
needs the resources (maybe Earth is completely tapped out at this time period?) and reluctant to just up and leave, and they can’t go around killing every creature willy-nilly because they worry that devastating the animal/plant population would adversely affect the environment. So they reach out to the scientific community to find a way to neutralize the threat without killing all the wildlife. Everyone is very hesitant, especially when they find out exactly what
the creature do to people.
Enter the player character, a renowned expert in xenobiology, botany, and zoology. Said character is known as a bit of a freak and a madwoman/man (ideally, you could pick the player’s gender) among the scientific community because they frequently use rather...unconventional
methods in their experiments and data collecting. But you’re the only one who’ll take on the job, so they have no choice but to send you.
And the game progresses from there. :)But some of them would be deadly and might kill you (either from, uh, exhaustion, or because the sexin' was just a distraction so they could eat you) unless you did the right thing or approached them in the right way. Like maybe for one of them you'd have to bring someone else in with you to get you out after you got your data, or there would be objects you could use in Sierra-like puzzles to get away, things like that. And you could get these objects, as well as talk to people and such, in the nearby city.
So this would be like a sort of fetch-quest adventure game type of thing? Cool!
Out of curiousity, what do you envision the controls, abilities, and graphic to be like? I mean, I know this is more of a pipe dream and all, but it’s still fun to think about.
Yep, he got a line in the first Harry Potter book:...said Percy Weasley pompously across Harry as "Zabini, Blaise" was made a Slytherin.
. But a million fics were written about him anyway. We found out for certain in the sixth book (I think) that he was 1)male and 2)black, the combination of which instantly Jossed about 99% of fanart and almost that much fic about him. And some actual characterization stuff, I think. :BYeah, he’s quickly become a beloved SC2 OC over there. Crazy! But he’s one of [info]zarla’s OCs, and she always makes great characters.
*nodnod* This is true. I mean, just look at Scriabin. And Edgar, too, although not to the same extent (since he did have some characterization in the original; it was just brief).A lot of people are starting to ship ZEX/DAX too. XD And ZEX/Captain/DAX, which is awesome I love threesomes so freakin’ much. I think it would take a while for DAX to warm up to the Captain and stop thinking of him as “That human bastard that ruined ZEX and took him away from me”, though.
Oh I know
! :D It's wonderful! ZEX/Captain is my primary OTP, ZEX/DAX is a close second, Captain/ZEX/DAX is my OT3 (and possibly even favored above ZEX/Captain), and DAX/Captain is getting worryingly appealing. XD I just love all three of them, really.*nods* Yeah, or if she isn’t bleeding or being torn apart.
...oh man, the guro. :( Yeah, browsing imageboards is always an... adventure.
Ooooooooo I like your backstory! (Oh and obviously
you'd be able to choose your character's gender! Although to my way of thinking it should be purely aesthetic gender
with no significant differences in how the game plays out, or the dialog you get. And of course Everyone Is Bi. :B ) And the goal would be to get all the necessary info back to the base/whatever.So this would be like a sort of fetch-quest adventure game type of thing? Cool!
Exactly! And I'm thinking there would be puzzles, although not Sierra-hard puzzles but rather ones you would have a chance of solving without dying first. You'd pretty much be able to explore and try different things without too much fear of death/lost progress; there wouldn't be any of that "Neglect to pick up an item on the third screen, and the game is unwinnable! We won't tell you until it's nearly the end, though" stuff I've heard about. You could die easily and frequently if you weren't careful, but you wouldn't end up with useless saves for the most part.Out of curiousity, what do you envision the controls, abilities, and graphic to be like? I mean, I know this is more of a pipe dream and all, but it’s still fun to think about.
...Well, in my head I've been picturing it as having similar controls and such as Space Quest VI, where you have... I guess you could describe it as multiple cursors, at the top of the screen, and an inventory thing. Like, if you click on the tongue icon, then the cursor becomes that, and whatever you click on is licked and you get a message about how it tastes. Click on the eye icon and you can use it to get descriptions of objects. Click on the inventory icon and you get a list with icons of everything in your inventory, and you can choose one to use. You move by clicking on the place you want to go... SQ has discrete screens, but I don't think TentaQuest would be quite like that; I like smoother scrolling better. I guess there would be transitions when you were going "up" or "down", though (not actual up and down, although I guess there could be some climbing... but "toward the bottom of the screen" and "toward the top of the screen", you know, like in Legend of Zelda. North and South, I guess.). So it would be third-person POV, definitely. I was thinking the graphics would be 2-d, but a little more detailed/sophisticated than SQIV (example
. Mainly I'm thinking of just more detailed sprites.). And when you... encountered... a tentacle monster, there'd be a cutscene animation (if there was an item you needed to use, you'd have a chance at the beginning, before the cutscene really started).
Whoops, hit the character limit.
Whoops, hit the character limit. :B
But that might not be the most fun way to do it. Another option I was thinking of would be to have the gameplay--in terms of controls and graphics--a lot like Sims 2, where you just click on objects and choose from a menu of actions. Except there would be additional camera options: you could set the camera to stay in a certain position relative to your character, either strictly or loosely (loosely would try to keep the character in sight and not let objects come between you and him/her), which would allow third person and a kind of first-person. Although I think the inventory would be treated differently... maybe a thing at the top that expanded when you hovered the mouse over it, that would show all the objects you had in your inventory. Then you could either get notes/a description of the object, or use it, or leave it somewhere. And I think you'd be able to set it to either mouse-driven movement (click here to go here/run here) or keyboard-driven movement (press w to go forward, a to turn left, hold shift to increase speed, etc.). Not a combination, though; while I really like Portal's system--use the mouse to aim the camera, and the keyboard to go forward or back/slide left or right/crouch/jump--I don't think it would work here, since you'd want to be able to click on things and people without moving the camera. In this case, the cutscenes would be procedurally generated (like Sim actions! I assume) and you could move the camera around.
Oooo and you'd have a little notebook to take down observations in. :D
Abilities... I'm not sure. :O What do you mean?
